To the centre of the earth! German photographer Malte Clavin is one of the few who was able to take part in what is probably one of the most adventurous photo tours in the world, the Son Doong expedition. The five-day tour in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park first leads through leech-infested jungle and the participants have to ford countless rivers with chest-high water. Roped down into the cave, the tour goes over hundred-metre-high sharp rocks, through underground lakes, caves with their own climate (and cloud formations!) and rare cave forests. Son Doong is the largest cave in the world and was only fully mapped in 2010.
A voyage of discovery in the Amazon
Expedition into the depths of the Amazon region with all its inhabitants. I was in the middle of it with a small group and couldn’t get out of my amazement.
Son Doong in Vietnam
To the center of the earth! The most spectacular trip I’ve ever done: the Son Doong cave expedition in Vietnam. First, it’s through leech-infested jungle. Then, abseiling down into the cave, over sharp rocks, through underground lakes, gigantic shafts. Absolutely breathtaking!
My photo of fishermen on Inle Lake was published in the American gourmet magazine SAVEUR.
Article in the Badische Zeitung
January 2018, Black Forest, Southern Germany: Together with my Ice Buddies I wad through knee-deep snow, jump into ice-cold lakes and finally boot up the snow-covered Feldberg. All topless, mind you. So what’s it about?
Volunteering in Sumatra's jungle
It’s off to a good start: sunburn, heat stroke, insect bites. Broken leg, dehydration, diarrhoea. Ida Vincent of Biosphere Expeditions initiates nearly a dozen dedicated conservationists from Germany, Austria, Italy, the US and Australia into the hazards of the Sumatran jungle.
My 41-page PDF eBook (value 29,90 Euro) gives answers and insights around the subject ‘photo presentation’. Now as download for free.

Articles in BILD and BZ (Berliner Zeitung)
I wouldn’t have dreamed of it a few years ago either: me in the newspaper BILD: “Barren gorges alternating with densely overgrown rainforests. Low-hanging clouds make the shots seem mystical.”
Son Doong Cave Expedition
I can’t say it any other way: this was the most awesome thing I’ve ever done: The five-day expedition through one of the largest caves in the world in Vietnam. I couldn’t forget the amazement and sweating.

Publication after one and a half years of hesitation
I hesitated for a long time whether I should write about this experience. For one and a half years. Until today.
